Lucky for him, it was next store to a lighthouse where a nice woman named Nora lives with her father Lampie. Nora finds the boy and lets him live in the lighthouse with her, cleans him up and gets him ready for school and live the life of a normal 12 year old boy.
Meanwhile there's a new and unwelcome stranger in town, one Dr. He is a scam artist posing as a doctor with "magical potions" that work as a cure all.
When he discovers that there is a magical dragon in town, he references his potion book and finds that with different parts of the dragon's body he could legitimately make potions that actually work.

It has been many years since I've seen it despite the fact that I have had the DVD in my collection for some time. The other night I decided to take it out and watch it with my six year old son so that he will enjoy it the same way I did when I was young.
He did like it, but it wasn't as good as I remembered. It wasn't because the special effects weren't convincing, because they were good enough. I think what had slightly diminished some of the magic are the hokey musical numbers.
This is really an all-out family musical, unlike most other Disney releases. I didn't remember that there were so many songs, and more importantly - more than half of them weren't too good, for Disney standards that is.
Yet, for a musical, this has a fine cast. Mickey Rooney especially is a natural for this type of film, and not just because of his first name.
With her teeth blackened, and her dirty rags and skin, she seems like a natural choice. One cast member kind of stood out of place, and that was one Jeff Conaway Grease in the role of Willie Gogan.
The Gogans are an especially dirty looking family, but Conaway looks just a tad bit cleaner than the rest. His accent is a tad less hillbilly than the rest of the clan.
It was a good idea to keep his role to the bare minimum in the way that it has. For me, what saved this movie is the introduction of Dr. Terminus and Hoagy had the best storyline and they sang the best of the songs like Every Little Piece.
The came about almost halfway through the movie, and it was mostly then that the story had gotten interesting. Elliott the magic dragon wasn't really seen too much in the film, and only these two guys were really interested in the dragon oddly enough.
But, I still believe that the kids are going to love this movie. Some things may have to be explained to them such as the time period and the goofy hair styles, but the timeless story of a boy with a magical invisible dragon will hook them every time.
I remember this movie from when i was much younger and it was always my favorite disney movie and still after all these years still is.
How I fantasized about having Elliott as a friend and the adventures we could have. It was such a good movie then with a lot of humor, songs that I still remember to this day and a touching story that still holds up.
Great performances from Helen Reddy, Red Buttons, Shelly Winters and Mickey Rooney highlight this movie but it is still the dragon that made me smile and maybe even shed a tiny tear when he flew away for the last time.
This is the second time I have seen it as the first time was in the 70's when I was a kid.. I don't typically review movies in terms of reviewing the movie itself.
The quality is much better, the colors and clarity are better. Blu-rays are typically more durable then DVD, so they don't scratch as easily, etc.
I have mentioned this in my other Blu-ray reviews which is, Amazon is a great place to find good deals on movies, if you have an older release needing a replacement, or upgrade, I've had great success on Amazon finding what I'm looking for, as long as the content is for sale.
One person found this helpful. I used to enjoy this movie as a kid and enjoyed revisiting the story as an adult. I remembered that as a year old, the Gogans the people who adopted Pete and the scene of Elliot the dragon being trapped scared me good.
So I would like to caution parents that young ones may be frightened by them too. The songs are fun, but somehow I forgot the sequence at the beginning in the pub.
You will find classic silliness throughout and a clear line between the good vs evil, where good overcomes in the end.
