But the joke goes terribly wrong, and the teens leave Cropsy for dead after setting him on fire. But no one keeps Cropsy down.

There's a great sense of fun on this picture, with cool characters, nice locations, inventive shocking deaths and awesome sense of "where will this go next?
It's a pretty fun flick while it lasts and was interesting to see Jason Alexandre and Helen Hunt on their debut roles taking the piss out of it.

Don't breathe; he'll hear you. Don't move; you're dead! I actually like it quite a bit better than the notable movie it is ripping, Friday the 13th.
It isn't a genre staple like some others, but it is easily one of the better times I have had watching an 80's slasher.
The fact that the film never got boring is a testament to why a liked it so much. I've seen very few slashers that didn't get boring part way through.
One key factor that I really liked about The Burning was the killer, Cropsey. I really enjoyed his presence because he didn't feel unbeatable.

Alec B Super Reviewer. Jan 28, Ah-in Yoo plays Lee Jong-su, the young man, who when we first meet him is making a delivery to an electronics store where his old acquaintance Shin Hae-mi Jong-seo Jun dances out front to lure customers inside.
Sure enough, they have sex and he sets about taking care of a cat he and we have yet to see. Hae-mi has a wonderful and revealing moment in which she shows off her miming skills.
It feels off-the-cuff, but what she has to say about perception is a key to viewing this film. Unlike Jong-su, Ben has money, a fancy car, a to-die-for apartment, and the kind of swagger we all wish we had but are too afraid to actually pull off.
Did we just hear that correctly? Who knows, but by this time, the film has slowly managed to seduce us with its low key, hangout charms.
Both feature a troubled protagonist who oh-so-slowly obsess over and search for someone they barely knew and both manage to explain everything while still retaining their ambiguity.
BURNING excels as an of-the-moment dissection of millennial impotence and a yearning desire to connect while possessing none of the tools for how to accomplish such a thing.
All three of its leads give wonderful performances with Yeun putting a fresh spin on his Talented Mr. Ripley-esque character.
Is he a sociopath or just your garden variety narcissist? The film forces you to read into his every yawn and blank but seductive charms.
Meanwhile, Ah-in Yoo performs the hell out of his naive street kid who has his own hidden demons and unexpected sexual desires.
In its opening weekend in France, the film attracted 53, audience in total, ranking third at the box office behind Mile The website's critical consensus reads, " Burning patiently lures audiences into a slow-burning character study that ultimately rewards the viewer's patience -- and subverts many of their expectations.

However, Adam Nayman from Film Society of Lincoln Center [51] argued and emphasized for The Ringer that the story is "told fully from Jongsu's point of view," so "it's fair to ask whether Lee Chang Dong is cultivating true audience solidarity or urging us to understand the story exclusively through the lens of his hero's prejudices: to see Haemi and Ben as idealized and demonized figures, respectively.
This is much, much more than simply a missing woman as plot device: one of the most powerful parts of a film that can comfortably boast a range of achievements is how casually yet firmly the film addresses the pressures on women — not just Hae-mi and her colleagues, but Jong-su's own mother — to live up to financially unsustainable images of femininity in contemporary South Korea.
Burning was selected as the South Korean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 91st Academy Awards ; although it was not nominated, it became the first Korean film to make it to the final nine-film shortlist.

He's more human. It just isn't that fun, aside from Halloween, watching a character that you know can't be beaten. This slasher felt fresh in those regards.
The one thing that did irritate me about the film was the practical joke at the start. First off, Cropsey should only be mad at himself.
In what world do you grab the fire, pull it onto your bed, get up and knock gasoline onto it. Come on. And the kids, did you really think this was a badass prank?
From the sound of how they were talking before hand, I expected a little more than the huge cliche prank. This movie follows Cropsey five years after that prank goes wrong.
He is severely burned and is out for revenge. He is now preying on a group of teenage campers. His weapon of choice Gotta love it.
There's some pretty cool kill sequences, but nothing that we haven't seen before in countless other slashers.
I always enjoy seeing familiar faces in slashers. Many actors have gotten their starts in slashers, and there's another notable one here.
Jason Alexander plays a camper and I feel inclined to say, that he gives my favorite teenager in a slasher performance ever.
He's funny and actually gives the first really good performance I have ever seen out of an actor in these types of movies.
Holly Hunter and Brian Backer are also faces you should recognize. This is one of my new favorite slashers, outside of the huge names like Halloween and Black Christmas.
I just really enjoyed everything this film had to offer, and the fact that I really didn't expect much just made it all the better.
